We are told these things but they don’t exactly hold true when it comes to dating. Political correctness is for strangers to lie politely and it doesn’t really belong in the relationship arena.

You have to think back to early on in your relationship and try to remember how much effort you put into your looks. Men are often referred to as “visual creatures”, but women are not much different as far as enjoying what is aesthetically pleasing. Beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder, but the general meaning of beauty is sort of imprinted on us and being in a dating relationship does require you to look your best for your partner.

Dating a person for a long time often has one or both party in the relationship to “let go” of themselves. Your partner may still love you but he or she does not lust over you anymore. You’ve grown your beer belly, you dress up only for some special occasion, you have protruding nose hair, and you dress up like a character out of an 80s sitcom… should I continue? These things affect relationships negatively and it has nothing to do with being shallow.

If you’ve “let go” of yourself during your relationship with your ex, then you should know that it had played a role in your breakup, perhaps much more than you’d think. Don’t be mad at your ex for making your appearance an issue, rather you should be mad at yourself for not doing anything to fix the problem. Because you could have done something, looking beautiful is as simple as staying healthy and keeping yourself attractive is more of a habit to make yourself look good than something you are born with. How attractive and beautiful do you think Brad Pitt might look if he had gained an extra 50 pounds and was wearing a clown’s outfit?

If you are having relationship problems, think appearance first and make sure you are looking your best for your partner. After all, you have full control over the way you look.
