Out of desperation, it is easy to be swayed into lying so that you can get your ex back, but long-term relationships and deceptions are like oil and water. This isn’t a lesson in morality, but it is the story of how people way too often dismiss the big picture for instant gratification.

I have a friend who I’ll call Kathy (for the sake of anonymity) and this is a story of her. Kathy had this wonderful boyfriend who I’ll call Mark and they’ve been dating for 3 years when she made the mistake of cheating on him. Kathy’s boyfriend was so devoted to her that it never occurred to me that she would cheat on him, let alone dump him for a new man, but she did.

It wasn’t too long after she hooked up with the new guy that she started to regret her decision. Later when it was all said and done, she had told me that she regretted her action the moment she dumped her boyfriend of 3 years.

In any case, she wanted Mark back but she had absolutely no idea how she was going to accomplish that. So she lied, she told Mark she was pregnant with his baby and Mark being Mark actually forgave her and took her back.

Men should take a note that they can make just as heinous lies. I’ve heard of stories of how some men have lied that they were dying of some decease or faking the death of a family member. You can’t go much lower than that.

The story has an obvious ending, because there is no way to fake a pregnancy for an extended period of time and Kathy had to come clean eventually. Mark, the nicest guy in the world would have forgiven her for cheating on him, for dumping him, but this is was just too much to bear, even for him.

Lying about a pregnancy might seem like an extreme of an example, but the truth is that all lies told to pull someone back into a relationship, usually suffer from similar fate.

As girlfriend and boyfriend, a relationship does not get any more intimate and personal. Then, as you might imagine, most people will have difficult time keeping a lie from their partner for a long time.

Mark left Kathy when he learned that she had lied to him to get him back and he did not look back afterwards. If Kathy was more patient and if she was willing to earn Mark’s trust back, I am most certain that they’d still be together today.

I don’t care how you can justify a lie, trust me, it will come back to bite you in the ass if you use such lowly tactic to win back your lost love. You will get hurt again and the second time around it will hurt even more, at least that’s true according to Kathy.

The moral of the story, quick fixes are only that and they are not meant to last. Studies after studies show that more than half the couples who breakup get back together not long after. This quite simply means, that you have a better chance of ending up with your ex boyfriend/girlfriend even after a breakup, than never seeing each other again.

This may be a corny line, but honesty really is the best policy if you wish to win your ex back. Keep it simple, just be honest with your ex and you are that much closer to getting him or her back.
